This Christmas Crack also known as Saltine Cracker Toffee Candy is a holiday classic! The perfect salty, sweet, and crunchy toffee bark so good you won’t be able to just eat one piece.
Christmas Crack is a holiday staple and we make it many times every Christmas.
Also known as saltine toffee candy or cracker candy, this recipe is a holiday classic!
A base of saltine crackers is topped with an easy homemade toffee and finished with a layer of chocolate chips melted on top.
The result is a salty sweet dessert that you won’t be able to stop eating! You can leave it plain, or dress it up with any kind of topping you’d like.
It’s simple to make, and tastes amazing with or without toppings.
You can find the full recipe and instructions at the bottom of this post, but here’s what you need to make the recipe.

Ingredients to make saltine toffee candy
- 1 sleeve saltine crackers (around 35)
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 10 oz semi sweet chocolate chips

How to make Christmas crack
Step 1: Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: Line up a sleeve of saltine crackers on the parchment paper.
Step 3: In a sauce pan, bring the butter and brown sugar to a boil.
Boil the mixture until thick, stirring constantly. This mixture is the toffee layer, but no candy thermometer is required.
Step 4: Pour the thickened caramel toffee mixture over the top of the saltines, then spread evenly with a rubber spoon or spatula. Bake for a few minutes until bubbly.
Step 5: Once done, remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle on a bag of semi sweet chocolate chips.
Step 6: Once the chocolate chips have melted, use the back of a spoon to spread the chocolate layer out evenly. The chocolate should be evenly spread to cover all of the crackers.
Now it’s time for toppings! Or you can skip this step and put it right in the fridge. The original version is amazing by itself!
