How to make green bean casserole

Step 1: Add the minced garlic, thinly sliced onion, and mushrooms to a skillet along with butter. Cook this over medium high heat until the mushrooms have released their liquid and cooked down.

Step 2: Drain the liquid from 4 cans of french style green beans. Once your mushrooms have cooked down, add them to a bowl with with green beans and cream of mushroom soup, then stir to combine.

Step 3: Grease a 9 by 13 baking dish, and add the casserole filling to it. Top with one cup of freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese.

Step 4: Bake the french green bean casserole at 400 degrees for 20 minutes, or until bubbly. Remove the casserole from the oven and top it with one container of french fried onions.

If you really love french fried onion topping, feel free to double it. You really can’t have too many crunchy golden brown french fried onions in my opinion!

Bake the casserole an additional 5 minutes, or until the french fried onions are crispy and golden brown.

This family favorite side dish is so delicious and always a hit.
