The Daily Grind: A Parent’s Love Affair with Coffee

For many, especially parents navigating the joyful chaos of daily life, the anticipation of a good cup of coffee is often the brightest moment of the morning, and sometimes, the afternoon too. It’s not just a beverage; it’s a small, personal ritual, a moment of peace, and a much-needed boost. Coffee provides the fuel to tackle busy schedules, from school runs to creative projects, making every sip a little victory.

In my household, finding the perfect coffee blend is paramount, and recently, Folgers® Coffeehouse Blend has become an indispensable part of our routine. Its robust and inviting aroma fills the kitchen, promising a moment of rich, satisfying flavor. It’s truly a game-changer for those who appreciate a deeply flavored coffee experience.

Discovering the Bold Flavor of Folgers Coffeehouse Blend

Before trying the Folgers Coffeehouse Blend, I had my usual favorites, but this particular blend has truly captured my attention. What immediately stood out was its exceptionally bold and rich flavor profile. Unlike some coffees that can lose their character when mixed with creamers or sweeteners, the distinctive taste of Folgers Coffeehouse Blend shines through every time. Whether you prefer your coffee black, with a splash of milk, or as a decadent creamer addict (guilty as charged!), the coffee’s inherent richness remains wonderfully present.

This bold flavor makes it an ideal base for a variety of coffee creations, especially those that involve other ingredients like ice cream. It’s robust enough to hold its own, ensuring that the coffee essence isn’t lost in the sweetness, which is crucial for a truly remarkable cold brew coffee float. Its versatility and deep character have made it a staple in our pantry, ensuring every cup is a moment to savor.

The Inspiration: Recreating a Coffee Shop Dream at Home

My husband, Robbie, has a particular weakness for a specific coffee shop treat: the elusive coffee float. We only experienced one together once, but its memory lingered, a sweet whisper of creamy coffee perfection he couldn’t stop talking about. That single indulgence sparked a mission for me: to recreate that amazing depth of flavor and luxurious texture right in our own home.

The goal was to craft a bold cold brew coffee, potent and smooth, then lovingly pour it over scoops of rich, creamy vanilla ice cream. The magic truly begins as the ice cream slowly melts into the coffee, creating an ethereal swirl of cold, sweet, and robust flavors. This transformation turns a simple cold brew into a decadent cold brew coffee float – pure heaven in a glass. It’s an experience words can barely describe, a true coffee lover’s dream come true, elevated by the satisfying richness of homemade goodness.

Crafting the Perfect Cold Brew: Simplicity Meets Flavor

The secret to an exceptional cold brew coffee float lies in the quality and preparation of the cold brew itself. For this recipe, I turned to the reliable Folgers Coffeehouse Blend to make an effortlessly delicious cold brew right in the refrigerator. The beauty of cold brewing is its simplicity and the remarkably smooth, low-acid coffee it produces, which is far less bitter than traditionally hot-brewed coffee that has been chilled.

The process is straightforward: combine coarsely ground coffee with filtered water and let time do the work. Allowing it to steep overnight in the fridge extracts the coffee’s full, complex flavors without the bitterness. The next morning, a simple straining through cheesecloth or a coffee filter removes any lingering grounds, leaving you with a concentrate that is bold, rich, and incredibly delicious. This foundational step is what ensures your cold brew coffee floats achieve that deep, satisfying coffee flavor that truly makes them stand out.

Assembling Your Dream Cold Brew Coffee Float

With your homemade cold brew ready, the final steps to creating this blissful dessert drink are quick and fun. Start by scooping generous amounts of your favorite vanilla ice cream into a tall glass. The key is to use a good quality ice cream that will melt slowly and integrate beautifully with the coffee. Next, gently pour the rich cold brew over the ice cream. You’ll immediately notice the tantalizing aroma filling the air as the coffee greets the creamy sweetness.

For an extra layer of indulgence, stir in a little vanilla soy creamer to taste, or any creamer you prefer, to add another dimension of creaminess and sweetness. Finally, for an irresistible touch, drizzle some melted chocolate over the top. This not only adds a beautiful aesthetic but also a burst of chocolatey goodness that perfectly complements the coffee and vanilla. Just imagine: the first sip where the cold brew meets the melting ice cream, swirled with creamer and a hint of chocolate. Is your mouth watering yet?

Robbie and I simply cannot get enough of these. After a night with only a few hours of sleep, a cold brew coffee float isn’t just a treat; it’s a necessity, offering a moment of pure, refreshing joy to power through the day.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Folgers Coffeehouse ground coffee
  • 4 1/2 cups filtered water
  • 1/2 cup vanilla soy creamer, or to taste
  • melted chocolate, for drizzling, if desired
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Combine Folgers Coffeehouse ground coffee and filtered water in a large pitcher or jar. Stir well to ensure all grounds are saturated. Cover the container and allow it to steep in the refrigerator overnight, or for at least 12-18 hours, to achieve optimal flavor extraction.
  2. Once steeped, use a cheesecloth-lined strainer or coffee filters (set in a fine-mesh sieve) to carefully strain the coffee concentrate into another clean pitcher or jar. Discard the spent coffee grounds. You’ll be left with a smooth, bold cold brew concentrate.
  3. To prepare your floats, scoop several generous servings of vanilla ice cream into individual tall glasses.
  4. Pour the cold brew coffee over the ice cream. If desired, stir in 1/2 cup of vanilla soy creamer (or creamer of choice) into the entire batch of cold brew, or add it directly to individual glasses to taste.
  5. For an extra special touch, garnish with a drizzle of melted chocolate, if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy this luxurious cold brew coffee float!
