October 19th marks a truly special milestone here at Build Your Bite, as we proudly celebrate our second anniversary! It feels like just yesterday I was embarking on this incredible culinary adventure, and today, two years later, this food blog has grown into something more fulfilling than I could have ever imagined. While my idea of “partying hard” these days involves convincing my two-month-old that sleep is, in fact, an essential activity, the joy and gratitude I feel for this journey are immense.
It’s genuinely hard to believe that only two years ago, I took a leap of faith into an endeavor that has fundamentally reshaped my life. Build Your Bite began as a dream, a whispered hope, and has since blossomed into a thriving community for food lovers and a testament to the power of pursuing one’s passion.
From Culinary Dreams to a Thriving Food Blog: The Genesis of Build Your Bite
For as long as I can remember, the idea of starting my own food blog simmered in the back of my mind. Yet, it was always accompanied by a myriad of fears and uncertainties. I was an avid cook, deeply in love with the art of creating delicious meals, but the technicalities of building a website, mastering food photography, attracting an audience, and navigating the vast digital landscape felt overwhelmingly daunting. My expertise lay solely in the kitchen, not in web development or digital marketing.
However, there was an undeniable pull towards the culinary world. Cooking isn’t just a chore for me; it’s a profound source of joy and solace. The kitchen is my happy place, where creativity flows freely, and every meal prepared is an act of love. This deep-seated passion was the unwavering foundation upon which Build Your Bite would eventually be built. It was my incredible husband who saw past my fears and provided the gentle yet firm push I needed. With his unwavering encouragement, I finally gathered the courage to hit ‘publish’ on that very first post. We all have to start somewhere, right?

A Life-Changing Revelation: The Path to Entrepreneurship and a Stay-at-Home Dream
Two years ago, I was a newly engaged 20-year-old, looking into an uncertain future. My biggest aspiration had always been to be a stay-at-home mom, present for every precious moment of my children’s lives. But in a world often dictated by traditional career paths, I struggled to envision how this dream could become a reality. Financial independence and the freedom to choose my lifestyle seemed like distant fantasies.
Then, a pivotal moment arrived. I stumbled upon Pinch of Yum’s inspiring income reports. It was a revelation! Here were real people, living real lives, making a sustainable income from their passion for food blogging. This discovery ignited a spark within me, proving that it was indeed possible to turn a love for cooking into a fulfilling career. Empowered by this newfound knowledge, I made the momentous decision to embark on my own food blogging journey.
The changes came swiftly. Just two months after launching Build Your Bite, I got married and took the brave step of quitting my job. Five months later, in an even bolder move, I decided to leave college, just one semester shy of graduating. This decision, as you can imagine, was met with significant skepticism.

Defying Expectations: Why I Chose a Food Blogging Career Over a Traditional Path
I distinctly recall the countless individuals who, without hesitation, labeled my decision to quit college as “stupid.” It’s important to clarify that this wasn’t a result of academic struggle; in fact, I’ve always excelled academically. My choice stemmed from a deep-seated conviction that completing my degree would lead not to a job I loved, but to a career path that felt meaningless and unsatisfying. I had long known that I didn’t want to be trapped in a profession I hated, merely existing day-to-day. My heart yearned for work that resonated with my true self, allowing me to earn a living doing what I loved most.
Crucially, my husband was my staunchest supporter, backing my entrepreneurial dream not just 100%, but 1000%. His belief in me was the fuel that kept me going, especially during those early, uncertain days. And so, with a clear vision and an abundance of passion, Build Your Bite was officially born.
The Unseen Realities of Food Blogging: Dedication, Challenges, and Triumphs
The journey of building a successful food blog has been an intricate tapestry woven with countless hours of unpaid work, moments of intense frustration, and bursts of pure happiness. It’s a challenging yet incredibly fulfilling career path, one I wouldn’t trade for anything. There’s a common misconception that being a blogger is an easy, glamorous gig. From the outside, it might appear to be a sweet deal, but the reality is far more demanding.
Behind every delicious recipe and beautiful photo lie hundreds of hours dedicated to tasks that are often invisible to the reader. This includes wrestling with technical issues, optimizing for search engines (SEO), learning advanced photography and editing, crafting compelling content, managing social media, and relentlessly promoting recipes across various platforms in the hope of attracting traffic. It is by no means a “get rich quick” scheme; it requires immense dedication, continuous learning, and an unwavering commitment to quality content. However, the good news is that with enough effort and strategic planning, making money blogging is absolutely possible.
Those first few years in food blogging are undeniably the hardest. You pour your heart and soul into your work, often without seeing a single penny in return for what feels like an eternity. I can honestly say there were hundreds of times I wanted to throw in the towel, to give up on this ambitious dream. But something deep inside always held me back. Instead of quitting, I learned to take a step back, recharge, and then dive back in with renewed vigor. This resilience has been key to Build Your Bite’s sustained growth and success.

Balancing Motherhood and Blogging: The Flexible Demands of a Stay-at-Home Mom Blogger
Today, I am incredibly blessed to be a stay-at-home mom to my sweet baby boy, a dream I’ve cherished for years. While this lifestyle offers unparalleled flexibility, balancing the demands of caring for an infant and running a thriving food blog is no small feat. Some days are undeniably challenging, filled with sleepless nights and constant juggling, but every ounce of effort is profoundly worth it. The ability to set my own schedule, work from home, and be present for my son’s early years is a privilege I deeply appreciate.
This flexibility, however, often means working late into the nights and dedicating many weekends to recipe development, writing, and website maintenance. Yet, as the old adage goes, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” This sentiment truly encapsulates my experience with Build Your Bite. It is work, undoubtedly, but it is work fueled by passion, purpose, and the incredible support of this community.
